The SAT is a standardized test widely used for college admissions in the United States and Canada. The SAT is wholly owned, developed, and published by the College Board, a private, not-for-profit organization in the United States. SAT is intended to measure literacy, numeracy and writing skills that are needed for academic success in college.

 

Why take the test?

SAT is required to be taken by students seeking admission to undergraduate schools. SAT exam has been developed to test the written, verbal and mathematical skills of the candidates. Applicants who aspire to pursue undergraduate courses, particularly in the US and Canada, are required to take the SAT exam. Apart from this, many schools also offer SAT scholarship money to students based on their SAT results.

Center and Admit Card

The SAT exam is offered multiple times throughout the year across 30 cities in India. Admit hall ticket must be downloaded and brought by the candidate on test date.

Result

SAT scores for any test date during the school year are almost always available 2–4 weeks after you take the test. You’ll get an email when your SAT scores are available online. If you don’t have an online account, you’ll be sent a paper score report.

Score Reporting

You can send your Official Score Report to up to four programs for free that you select at the test center prior to the start of your SAT exam. The College Board sends your SAT scores to your chosen colleges within 10 days of when you receive all your SAT scores.

SAT General Test

Essay (Optional)

The SAT Essay asks you to use your reading, analysis, and writing skills. It’s optional, but some schools will require it. You have to read a passage, and explain how the author builds an argument to persuade an audience.Your explanation must be substantiated.

Writing and Language Test

The SAT Writing and Language Test asks you to be an editor and improve passages that were written especially for the test and that includes deliberate errors. All questions are multiple choice and based on passages.

Mathematics

This section covers a range of mathematics practices, with an emphasis on problem solving, modeling, using tools strategically, and using algebraic structure.lt is divided into two parts-With calculator and without calculator.

Reading

In the Reading Test, students will encounter questions like those asked in a lively, thoughtful, evidence-based discussion. All Reading Test questions are multiple choice and based on passages.

SAT Subject Test

Language

There are 9 languages to choose from – Spanish, French, Modern Hebrew, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, German, Latin and Korean. Tests can be taken either with listening or without listening.

English

There are six to eight sets of questions on the test, each based on a different literary text. All the questions are multiple choice questions.

Mathematics

The topics range from number & operations, algebra & functions, geometry & measurement, statistics, and probability, trigonometry and elementary functions.

Science

There are three types of test to choose from -Physics, Biology E/M (Ecological/ Molecular) and Chemistry each having 75, 80 and 85 questions respectively.

History

There are two types of test to choose from – U.S. History or World History. The first one has 90 questions while the other one can have up to 95 questions

SAT Exam Registration Process

Aspirants can register online for both GRE General test and subject tests, although, registrations via phone and mail are possible. Online registration is the most common way to apply for GRE test.

What is the difference between SAT and ACT?
One major difference between both the exams is that ACT includes a whole section on Science which is not present in the SAT. Students from Science background can showcase their skills related to Science subject through an ACT.
 
How can I send SAT scores to colleges?

There are two ways of sending the scores to colleges, one while registering for the test or after releasing the official scores. Candidates receive four free Score Reports while registering for the SAT test. Candidates can send the scores to colleges up to nine days of taking the test after that they have to pay $12 for sending the score reports to each university/program they choose.

What is the eligibility criteria for SAT?

As such, there is no specific qualification given by the College Board for taking the SAT. Also, there is no age limit prescribed by the administrative authority of SAT. Students who are in their junior or senior years of high school generally appear for the exam. The SAT exam is given by students who wish to enrol to undergraduate programs in the US and other countries. It can be used for seeking financial assistance as well.

What is the SAT point scale?

Candidates receive two section scores, Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, and Math. Each of them is reported on a scale of 200 to 800. Both these scores together make up the total SAT score. The total score ranges from 400 and 1600. Further, scores for the optional Essay are reported separately.

How many times can you take the IELTS?

There is no certain time limit to retaking the test, and it can be taken numerous times if the candidate wants to get the best score.
